Sandvik

The impossible

Statue

Shiny metallic statue of a figure holding a golden sphere, placed on a pedestal in a large, empty industrial warehouse.

Situation

Sandvik, a leader in sustainable mining technology, was transforming its business from traditional engineering to digital manufacturing. But its 161-year heritage was holding them back. The brand was seen as traditional and boring, while digital competitors in tech was seen as the future. So, Sandvik needed to change the perception and show what it had become. Not just say it.

Idea

We made the transformation tangible. We created The Impossible Statue. A collaboration between five classical art masters, brought together 500 years after their time. Using AI, we recreated their styles and combined them into a single vision. And brought that vision to life in steel using Sandvik’s digital manufacturing technology. The result was a 500 kg sculpture. A physical proof of what happens when tradition meets advanced technology. Today, the statue is a permanent exhibit at the National Museum in Stockholm.

Effects

The Impossible Statue was picked up in media across 66 countries and generated more than 700 articles. It drove engagement with Sandvik’s offering as new visitors to the website increased by 43%, and people’s time spent on the site rose by 48 percent. Additionally, interest in Sandvik as an employer grew as action on job postings increased by 35%.
